The baby has arrived and all is well. I was just coming off duty at 6 & met Robert W in the hospital, and he told me matters have begun. At 9 it was all over, a little girl, rather a disappointment to him, but Evelyn will be happy with a girl.
I went to the Judges lodgings, & saw Miss Thornecroft about Mary. It seems that Miss Buller answered her letter, but gave no real reason for dismissal, mentioned a reference Mary made to the [Chicln[?]] in writing which was disrespectful. Now this was a note to the washerwoman apologising that she should have the trouble of sending twice for her washing, when it was only through the discovery of the Supt. of the hostel that it was not in its right place.
This, coupled with a number of lies told Miss B by the matron, has been the cause of Mary’s dismissal. The whole thing is very unjust and Rob W who was shown the letter says that Ms Buller has not a leg to stand on legally. I want her to get a lawyer to see into it. Father, who was up last weekend, refuses to take any steps on the matter. He takes of course a gloomy view of the proceeding. I wish he had seen Mrs Buller and stormed at her.
In the meantime, Germany has entered Servia & taken Belgrade. Bulgaria has been in secret treaty with Germany ever since July, & has now come in on her side.
Greece is still wavering. The allies have landed a force at Salonika, in order to proceed to Servia. In France no further progress has been made.
