Last day of holiday. Finished the smock I have been making for Una, and as last evening I finished copying out the accounts, I feel the time at home has not been wasted.
At 11.45, D & I & Hector went in the car to Milton, where I took out the money for the choir fund, from the T.O. Bank & handed it over to D, to put in in her name. Then I went on to Lezant to see Mrs Cardwell.
She was out in her Bath chair down the lane, so I went on to see Una, & have a chat and afterwards Mrs C walked into the room. She looked terribly ill & so wasted away & shrunken, I fear she will not live long. After lunch she brightened up & talked more about Howard & Agnes & the children, Una said it did her good to talk.
I stayed until 3 & after another chat with Una, left. When I got home D & I set out to go to Albert cottages to see Mrs Guest. Elizabeth saw us & wanted to come, then Philippa said she was coming, so D had to go back & get the mail cart, & then Nicolas joined us, so we all set forth, with Hector, a gay & chattering party & all went well.
While I was seeing Mrs Guest the children played in the quarry. Elizabeth as a treat has tea with us & was very over awed with the honour. After tea Reginald & I went for a walk along the fields to the bridge below Holland & back by Deer Park. Shottie very kindly came with us. When we got back I cut flowers in the conservatory & then went up to the Rectory, to say goodbye to the Smiths.
This is a very backward spring, no trees in leave yet only the larch just beginning. Yest I heard a Chiff-Chaff for the first time, also found a Robin’s nest and a Wren’s nest.
