Bob is now for the time a transport officer in the 5th Dorsets, we had quite a cheery letter from him yesterday. He likes his Colonel & the other officers.
Tom Widger has died of his wounds. He has the honour of being the first from this parish to die for his country, & may he be the last, so far we have very much to be thankful for.
Margaret is at Salcombe for a few days having no douby lovely days but long dreary evenings.
Miss Dennys, a very charming nursing friend of hers spent the week end before last here, also Frank Drewe was here, he has been very bad & is quite a wreck but Ursula joins him today, though alas Juliana is left at Bournemouth.
Here are three versions of the latest war story which comes as do all such stories from the Wingfields through Father Dear. They concern K of K.
No. 1 – That Kitchener was mad & our own government wanted to get rid of him.
No. 2 – That he is alive & at the head of things disguised.
No. 3 – That he is a prisoner in Germany. Somebody heard from her son whom she supposed was drowned saying he was safe & a prisoner along with K of K.
I think the first is almost the best as there is a completeness & thoroughness about it, characteristics not usually attributed to the Government.
I wonder what he is supposed to be disguised as! An office boy?
