The second anniversary of the declaration of War& the one question in everyone’s mind is whether the end is at hand.
The fighting in France has been terrific but on the whole we seem to be getting the best of it.
There have been air raids again this week & we hear they have dropped bombs near Towcester but nowhere has there been any loss of life.
They tried to find Bob but he had just left. Mary is home for her holiday & Bob had a week about a fortnight ago.
Pan*1 died on Aug 1st, I fear I killed him by steeping his feet in lamp oil the day before.
On Monday Mary F took Elizabeth & Philippa to Wappenham. The two babies Archie & Juliana are very happy together except for an occasional blow & frequent arguments.
On 26th July we had a glorious day at Trebarwith, we went by train, Mr & Miss Moore & D Lethbridge came with us, we had a glorious bathe.
*1 We believe Pan was a family dog or other pet. If anyone knows why Dorothea may have steeped his feet in lamp oil, please let us know.
Dear Sophie,
It was lovely to see you the other day and catch up with all you have been doing at Kelly.
Have I missed something, you added about the dog ‘why would Dorothea have steeped his feet?’ – I thought this was Aunt Margaret’s diary? And the entry says ‘I’?
Love,
Margaret
Train to Trebarwith? Yes, on what must have been a beautiful route, the line from Launceston to Wadebridge. It wound across 3 OS maps. Did the Kellys walk to the Strznd from Delabole? And did they start from Lifton?
