Hello since last Wednesday, & a very lovely time.
Since I last wrote anything Frank & his family have returned. Four children, the two elder very wild & unruly. Philippa a quaint little independent person, Michael exactly like the old picture of Arthur.
On Easter Day we had lovely weather. I played for the morning service. We had a Choral Celebration & the choir sang it very well, thanks to Dorothea’s superhuman efforts. With all the difficulties she has to contend with, and all the touchy tempers to smooth down, she keeps the choir together in a way that is the wonder of all beholders.
In the afternoon I walked over to Marystowe. Dorothea & Elizabeth became part of the way, the latter very afraid of Hector. The view of the moor & surrounding it country was looking just perfect every step of the walk was full of joy.
Oh the delight of getting right away from houses & pavements, & having the grass under one’s feet & blue sky over head.
Mrs Newman was very surprised to see me & we had a long chat, as I had not seen her since the concert at Meadwell.
Yesterday I went to Tolapit to inquire for Maitland who has been very ill, but is now better.
Bob came home on Thursday & went away to day. He is much better & looked happier. Mary & Reginald came to day so we have been a nice large party.
On Sat. D. & I went to Lezant to enquire for Mrs Cardwell, who is very ill with a tumour inside. I saw her for a few moments, but she was in great pain. Una was there in her white habit, most unbecoming. She has grown so fat. Molly was also there, looking very pretty.
This evening I have been with Ellis in the fowl yard, putting away all the coops undercover & collecting the food & water dishes. It was a sad business & we both felt depressed over it. We found 6 eggs in various coops, laid I suppose by the hens Father bought from me.
One thing I must mention is my kind gift to the church, of a purple curtain & beautiful brass rod for the organ. Especially planned to shield me from the gaze of Mr Westcott who gets on my nerves when I play. It hides me completely from the congregation.
Nice to learn that Franks lot back from Africa. The quaint little independent person. She remained independent minded all her life.
Lovely to hear from Margaret again – have missed her. Thank you Sophia.
