Yest. I went to be inoculated for the 2nd time, & did not feel much of it to day.
I was given extra time off in the afternoon & came back to East-Southernhay & sat by the fire all the afternoon. On Sunday Mary & I went down to Exmouth with the Worthington’s. It was a lovely afternoon, we were much refreshed by the air. We walked along by the sea, & then went to Louisa Terrace for tea. A lovely sunset was going on all the time.
The Prof showed as a new Tory of his which consisted of a film of soap in a cylinder which when spun round showed the most lovely colours & patterns.
He very strict old sister who is over the ward I work in, has gone for a few days holiday. Her name is Chiltern, & she does crush me so. However the last few days things have gone more smoothly. One of the men one day sense to me just after I had been dropped on “how do you get on with sister, nurse? Bit military isn’t she.” I could not help smiling. She is however very kindhearted.
The quartermaster Miss Walsh is a very charming person. I have been into her office once or twice to have a chat & see a kitten that she has up there. The matron is also very nice, but there are some terrible looking specimens as sisters most common, I trust it will not be my fate to have to work under them.
The whole diary is a fascinating view into her genteel life and how the war proceeds.. Seems this week the war really it’s home. Think you so much for sharing some of your family’s archives.
