Journal Entry – Monday March 27th 1916

I have not written for many days.

Since I last wrote the army of the Philistine have once again invaded this house.

Mary F has gone in to a nursing home for a complete rest of three weeks.

Michael is truly adorable & is growing in to a first class rogue.

A report reached us yesterday brought back from Launceston market that the German Fleet had come out but like all report which come from that source proves false.

Had a letter from Bob who has been roughing it a bit in the snow and cold during the scare of invasion.

Several changes have taken place to day in the Kelly affairs.

Sydney has left stable but while waiting to be called up is working in the garden & to day Charlie Dyer starts work in the garden & as Kingsland & Guest both came back to work to day & Jack Boucher starts in the stable there is no lack of male workers here this week.

The Dyer family moved in to Meadwell on Saturday. He is working for Frank Yole. Father & I went over to enquire after Tom Wollocombe on Saturday. He and his Sergeant put their heads up over the trench & the sergeant was killed & Tom wounded but not badly.

Frank writes to his mother that he is enjoying himself immensely in the trenches, the food is splendid and everything is perfect.
